4-year-old unharmed in Axkid Minikid 2

This is the story of when Mona and her family; husband and two children of almost 5 and 11 years, experienced a car crash when they were on their way home from a day trip together with their grandparents (who drove another car). The family were almost home, only 5 km left, when the accident occurred. Their daughter of just under five years travelled rear-faced in her Axkid Minikid 2, and she had nothing but a scare afterwards.

“We were almost home”

It was on a country road where the accident took place. The family were driving in the right lane of the road in 70 km/h and they were almost home. Meanwhile, another car approached a junction with a stop sign when suddenly, the car accelerated and drove into the road. Tragically, the car hit Mona’s family’s car in full force.

There was a loud bang and all airbags went off. “We tried to swerve to the left lane but had no chance to avert the collision. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic, but the crash was still severe”. Unfortunately, this proves that you cannot control other driver’s carelessness when driving.

Daughter unharmed in Axkid Minikid 2

Their daughter, who was five years at the time, sat in her rear-facing car seat Axkid Minikid 2 and received no injury but only a scare. Mona often experienced being laughed at and questioned why their child still travelled rear-faced.

“We are glad we didn’t give in on this one. We would never forgive ourselves if she got seriously injured and not rear-facing”.

The ambulance personnel confirmed that the rear-facing car seat protected their daughter in the best possible way. As Mona told us, you can’t protect your child from all dangers of life – but with a rear-facing car seat you can offer the highest protection whilst in the car.

real life story of a crash.

Injuries of the other family members

The older daughter of 12 years had a cervical spine sprain and bruises, and same with Mona’s husband. Mona herself had a severe whiplash as her neck was thrusted in the accident. The whole family are grateful for doing well under the circumstances.

It can happen to anyone

Mona’s 4-year-old wanted a car seat like her friends [a forward-facing seat], but Mona and her husband believe that a child at that age should not make safety related decisions. After the accident, they explained thoroughly to their daughter how the rear-facing car seat protected her and now she rides her rear-facing car seat without any objections.

Many people might think “it won’t happen to me” or “I drive carefully”. But the truth is, it can happen to anyone, and you cannot control other driver’s actions. With this story, Mona and her family hope people reflect on the importance of car safety.

Thank you, Mona, for sharing your story. We are happy to hear that everyone is doing well under the circumstances.
