Prioritise rear-facing safety saved Rebecca’s son

At 10am a normal Thursday, the unthinkable happened, when Rebecca received a phone call from the police saying that her 2-year-old son had been involved in a crash. She rushed to the scene in a state of fear and panic, not knowing if her child was injured or not. Upon arrival, she saw an empty ambulance and began to panic even more.

The accident

Rebecca tells us that her son was picked up by his grandfather as usual on a Thursday morning. However, due to roadworks on the main road, he had to take the back roads that were unfamiliar to him. The car approached a junction that was quite blind and missed a give way sign, crossing a crossroad without giving way. The car collided with an oncoming van and flipped over multiple times, landing upside down in a wet ditch at the side of the road.

When Rebecca saw her son playing happily in a police car with the siren on and heard about how the firemen had cut his grandfather out of the car was an unbelieving feeling. She was relieved to find out that her son was unharmed, thanks to her choice of a rear-facing car seat from Axkid. She thanks her lucky stars every day that he survived the crash and often thinks about what could have happened if she hadn’t invested in a high-quality car seat.

Rear-facing saved her son

Rebecca strongly believes that the rear-facing car seat had a great impact on her son’s safety. She had invested a lot in purchasing one of the most highly tested seats in the market to ensure that her children were as safe as possible. If the seat had been forward-facing or any less protective, she imagined that her son would have sustained a lot more injuries.

Rebecca had always been very insistent about her children remaining rear-facing for as long as possible despite many objections from family members insisting that she was being overprotective.

Never compromise on safety

What Rebecca experienced is a powerful reminder of the importance of rear-facing car seats for children. She advises other parents to have the safest car seat they can afford and not to turn children forward-facing for any other reason than the child has outgrown the rear-facing car seat. A little bit of research and smart actions could save a lifetime of heartache, as the alternative for her doesn’t bear thinking about.

In conclusion, Rebecca’s story is a reminder that investing in a high-quality rear-facing car seat for your child is not being overprotective, but a smart and responsible decision. It could be the difference between life and death in case of an accident. Let us all prioritise our children’s safety when travelling in a car.
