Axkid support the Swedish Breast Cancer Association 

This October we support the Swedish Breast Cancer Association and sponsor Pink October, a crucial initiative dedicated to raising awareness and support research regarding breast cancer. Together, we can help drive change and contribute to the fight against breast cancer.  

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, affecting nearly 8,000 women and 60 men in Sweden each year. Thanks to early detection and improved treatments more people survive. Today, 9 out of 10 women overcome their breast cancer – a testament to the incredible advances in research. Although these numbers give us hope, we know there’s still more work to be done. 

We know that research requires funding – we too have conducted research in child safety for over 15 years. And now, thanks to everyone who has ever bought an Axkid, we are able to give back. To celebrate this wonderful initiative Axkid will donate 50,000 SEK to The Swedish Breast Cancer Association to help raise awareness and fund vital research to improve breast cancer outcomes.

The importance of early detection  
Early detection of breast cancer provides a better prognosis. It is therefore important to examine your breasts yourself between mammograms. Therefore, it is recommended that you check your breasts every month.  

How to examine your breasts  

  1. Stand in front of the mirror and examine the shape 
    Check for changes in the shape, size, or texture of your breasts. Do your breasts have their usual shape and size? 
     
  1. Feel the breasts for lumps or calluses 
    Use your opposite hand to gently check each breast for lumps or hardened areas. Do the breasts have the same firmness?  
  1. Examine the breast with small circular motions 
    Use the opposite side’s hand and press gently in circular movements, covering the entire breast area. Use straight fingers and feel through with small circular movements. 
  1. Do the same examination lying down 
    Also examine the breasts in a lying position with one hand under the head. Do you find any lumps or calluses? 
  1. Don’t forget to examine your armpits 
    This area can also show signs of breast cancer, so ensure it’s part of your self-check routine.  

Tip: Many people find it easier to examine their breasts in the shower. When soapy, it can be easier to spot unevenness and changes.
