Why should I choose a rear-facing car seat?

An extended rear-facing car seat—also known as an ERF car seat—is designed to keep your child rear-facing well beyond the 15-month minimum. Rear-facing car seats offer superior protection for the head, neck, and spine in the event of a collision, and studies show children are up to five times safer rear-facing than forward-facing. That’s why Axkid is committed to extended rear-facing travel, with models supporting rear-facing use up to 125 cm or 36 kg—typically around 6 to 7 years of age. For more detailed insights into the benefits of rear-facing, read our guide: “Why rear facing is a safer”

How long should my child stay in a rear-facing car seat, and when is it time to switch?

In the UK, the law states that babies must travel in a rear-facing car seat until at least 15 months old—but this is just the legal minimum. Research and safety data consistently show that it’s best to keep children rear-facing for as long as they fit safely in the seat.

At Axkid, we recommend continuing rear-facing travel up to 6–7 years of age, or 125 cm, depending on the model. Our rear-facing car seats are carefully designed to grow with your child, with adjustable headrests, deep seating positions, and clever safety features that adapt to every stage.

There’s no rush to turn your child forward-facing. In fact, the longer they remain rear-facing, the better protected they are—especially in the event of a frontal collision.

Will a rear-facing car seat fit in my car?

Yes. Axkid rear-facing car seats are designed with flexibility in mind—aking them a great fit for a wide range of vehicles—including smaller cars and city models.

We offer both ISOFIX and seat belt installation options, depending on the seat and your vehicle type. Some models, like the Axkid Minikid, are especially compact yet still support extended rear-facing use.

What is the Swedish Plus Test, and why is it important?

The Swedish Plus Test is the most rigorous car seat safety test in the world, measuring the critical neck forces a child would experience in a frontal collision. Read about the Swedish Plus test and why it is so hard to pass.

A Plus tested rear-facing car seat ensures your child isn’t exposed to life-threatening forces — even in the most severe crashes. All of our rear-facing car seats are proudly Plus tested, giving you peace of mind that your child is not only protected, but travelling in one of the safest car seats available.

This is one of many reasons why parents across the UK trust Axkid when it comes to long-term rear-facing safety. See our award-winning Plus tested seats here. See our car seats that won “best in test” here.
