FAQ

Installation

Yes, you can. Make sure that when you install the car seat it does not touch the seat in front of it. Once you have finished installing it, you can push back the seat in front and let it touch your car seat. Also make sure that you use the support leg correctly when installing the seat. Be very careful if you have an electrically powered car seat in front since the motors is very strong and can damage the Axkid seat.

< Back to All FAQ:s

Yes, you can install the car seat in the front seat of your car. However, it is important to check the support leg and make sure that it is at an angle over 10° from the back of the seat. You can check this by ensuring that the support leg is further away from the seat than the vertical line. And don’t forget to always ensure that the airbag is turned off, this is very important!

< Back to All FAQ:s

A rear-facing car seat should never be installed with an active airbag in the front seat. Today, most car manufacturers offer some form of safe disconnection of the airbag and if it has been actioned, the passenger front seat works fine for the rear-facing car seat. Regarding a forward-facing car seat in the passenger front seat, the basic rule is that the airbag must be deactivated if the child is under 140cm. However, today there are newer cars that have airbags where everyone who is travelling forward-facing, regardless of height, can sit even though the airbag is active. It is therefore important to read the car’s instruction manual or check with your car manufacturer as to what applies to your car.

Please note, side airbags do not pose a danger to children whether they are riding in a rear-facing or forward-facing car seat.

Yes, you can use our car seats on all seat positions if the car manufacturer approves them. Check the car’s user manual for more information on which seat positions is approved for use of a car seat or see our vehicle list here ».

All our car seats have tilt functions in the front. Try to use these first to get a better angle on the car seat, see the user manual for detailed information. If you need to tilt the car seat even more, we recommend our accessory “angle adjusting wedge“.

< Back to All FAQ:s

To determine if your vehicle is equipped with ISOFIX attachments, start by checking your car’s manual or the labels on the seats in you car, which might include the ISOFIX symbol. Since 2006, most new cars have been equipped with ISOFIX, making it a common feature for safer and simpler car seat installation. Furthermore, from 2014, it has been mandated by European law that all new four-seater cars are equipped with at least two ISOFIX attachment points, with the exception of two-seater vehicles. This standardization helps ensure that ISOFIX-compatible car seats can be easily installed in these vehicles. If you’re still unsure, check our Vehicle List to get the best possible guidance through your purchase.

It is also good to remember that different spots in the car may be compatible for different types of car seats. The same car can, for example, be compatible with both ISOFIX and seat belt attached car seats in different spots in the car. This means if you have several children, you can advantageously utilise seat belt attached car seats and ISOFIX car seats.

We at Axkid recommend as small an inclination of the car seat as possible, provided that the child can sit upright by itself without the head falling forward. All children are different and the inclination of the car seat must always be adapted to the child’s needs. The recommended angle for small children is about 30-35 degrees. A suitable angle for older children is between 15-25 degrees. Depending on the car seat model, there are different numbers of tilt positions and if you feel that you need more tilt than what the tilt control offers, you can buy a tilt wedge from one of our retailers » or at www.axkid.com »

Here is a video of how the wedge should be used.

When installing the car seat you can place it either with the heel on top of the car seat, or with the heel outside of the edge of the car seat. There is a mark on the heel that indicates how far out on the seat it can be installed. For more detailed installation instructions please click here »

When you purchase your Axkid car seat, additional tether straps are always included to enable installation in all cars, with or without attachment loops. For Axkid Move however, there is an exception since the tether straps on the seat are different and can be attached to any car directly without the use of additional tether straps. < Back to All FAQ:s

Yes, when using the car seat rear-facing, you must always install the seat with the support leg. That’s how our car seats are tested and approved. Before installing the support leg you need to make sure that there is no storage compartment underneath the car floor. If this is the case, the lid needs to be removed and the support leg installed in that space and not on top of the storage compartment. Most car manufactures offer a storage compartment filler that also be used but please consult with your car manufacture or dealer.

When you install the car seat you need to ensure that the heel of the car seat is over the front of the seat that it is installed in. Do not be afraid to really push it in to the seat. The tighter the better!

As you can see in below video you need to push down the car seat after you have fasten the tether straps to the attachment loops or in the lower anchor straps. After that you need to pull out the support leg and after you have installed the support leg you should push down the car seat again.

< Back to All FAQ:s

When buying a car seat, one practical matter you should know is the two different installation options: ISOFIX and seat belt attachment.

ISOFIX is a connection system for car seats that is internationally standardised and is in general an easier way of installing car seats.
Seat belt attachment means the installation is using the car’s own three-point seat belt for installation.

From a safety point of view, it makes no difference if your child’s car seat is installed with ISOFIX or by seat belt attachment. However, an ISOFIX installation is generally simpler and reduces the risk of human installation errors.

Axkid provides car seats both with ISOFIX and seat belt attachment. Filter based on your preferred installation type here.

Yes, you can! You can find the instructions on how to remove and fitting the covers step by step in our manuals that you can find here »

The seat cover can washed in a washing machine at 30º C on the “Gentle Cycle” programme. Do not put the cover in a dryer as this can damage the cover and the padding may separate from the fabric.

< Back to All FAQ:s

Absolutely, you can wash it in a 30-degree program on a gentle setting. Do not tumble dry.

The harness can be removed and cleaned, but not in a washing machine. What you can do is remove the harness and wash it by hand with a damp cloth and an unscented soap. The other plastic components of the car seat can be cleaned by hand as well. Important to note however is that you should not use any cleaning products containing solvents since these can have a negative impact on the plastic and thus the safety of the car seat.

< Back to All FAQ:s

You can use the baby cushion for as long as you/your child wants and enjoys it. However, we recommend removing it when the child grows taller to free up space in the car seat so that your child can travel rear-facing for as long as possible.

< Back to All FAQ:s

To provide your child with the best protection, the child’s ears shall be below the headrest upper edge. For Axkid Minikid, Axkid Rekid and Axkid Modukid, we recommend always using the unique headrest feature that makes the seat adapt to the child’s length and size. When unlocked, the car seat grows with your child and adjusts itself every time you use the seat. For Axkid Move and other seats in our product range we recommend checking regularly that the headrest is in correct position in relation to your child. Take a look at the instructions manual of your car seat for more information. For Axkid One we have added 2 stripes on the headrest that should be in the eye height of the child.

< Back to All FAQ:s

It should be so tight that you can get maximum 2 fingers between the child’s body and the harness. We recommend that you remove any type of thick clothing since it is important that the harness is as close to the child’s body as possible. To keep the child warm during the car ride you can place a blanket or something similar on top of the harness without interfering with the safety of the child.
For more instructions on how to prepare and fasten your child in the car seat, please follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1oSJTT4g5k

It is important that the headrest and belt is correctly adjusted in same height as the shoulder. If the belt is too low the belt will press the child´s back down in a accident. If the belt is to high the child could come loose or in case of an accident the belt could run over the neck instead of over the chest bone.

Se below picture for correct height.

Yes, that’s fine, as long as you regularly check that the headrest is in the correct position in relation to your child. However, we do recommend not making a habit of locking the headrest “just because”, since the protection in case of a collision comes from having the harness correctly fastened – not from having the headrest lever set on “Lock”. The headrest brake is mainly used when the child is very small or when traveling with an empty car seat.

A rear-facing car seat with belt attachment can be used until the child weighs about 25 kilos. The seat is outgrown when the child’s head is sticking up by a third over the edge, roughly on eye-level of the child, or when the car seat’s recommended weight limit has been passed.
When the child has outgrown the car seat replace it with a booster seat and eventually a booster cushion. Both physicians and researchers recommend that children should use a booster seat or booster cushion until they are approximately 10-12 years old.

< Back to All FAQ:s

Our high back booster seat Axkid Bigkid 2 has been designed to accommodate the older children to be safe in the car even after the rear-facing period. The long back length allows children all the way up to 150cm to sit safe and comfortably.

The Axkid Bigkid 2 comes now in two new executions, both of them in the Axkid Minikid’s popular colours. But what is the actual difference between the Axkid Bigkid 2 and Axkid Bigkid 2 Premium – let us explain.

The premium version of the Axkid Bigkid 2 differs from the Bigkid 2 mainly in two ways, the fabric and the belt guide.

  • The fabric – Axkid Bigkid 2 premium comes in a melange fabric that gives the car seat a more luxury feeling, and the foam seating and the fitting gets extra comfortable for you child.
  • The belt guide – Axkid Bigkid 2 Premium comes with a more detailed belt guiding including a fourth point of contact for the vehicle threepoint belt. The fourth point ensures the lap belt is in a correct and safe position, routed over the strong hipbone and not over the soft stomach of your child. The fourth point should be used until the child is big enough for the hip belt to naturally find an ideal and secure position.

» New textile

It is absolutely imperative that children sit safely and securely in vehicles, and it is therefore important to carefully consider your options when purchasing a car seat. Eco-consciousness, economy and buying second-hand is, of course, positive and necessary in today’s world. We only have one planet, and we need to take care of it. But here at Axkid we feel there are too many uncertainties when it comes to buying a car seat through the second-hand market. When purchasing a used car seat it is very difficult to ensure the safety, and it is not covered by our warranty. Axkid Minikid has been on the market for almost 10 years. It is a loved product by both children and parents due to the high level of safety and the ability to remain rear-faced for longer.  A new generation of Minikid has now entered the market – Axkid Minikid 3. And since we know you all love comparisons, we have summarised below some of the key differences between the bestseller Axkid Minikid 2 and the new generation Axkid Minikid 3.

Before going through these differences, we want you to understand how complex a car seat is. The development of Minikid 3 has been a process of over 4 years to make sure every single detail is perfect whilst creating the maximum safety and best overall experience for both children and parents. We have chosen to point out some of the main changes below.

  • R129 approved up to impressive 125cm and 36kg

Axkid Minikid 3 is approved according to the R129 regulation which is the most recent safety regulation within the car seat industry. The Axkid Minikid 3 is approved up to the impressive 125cm and 36kg while the Axkid Minikid 2 which is approved according to the ECE R44 regulation, where you only approve by weight, and is approved up to 25kg.

However, please note that both Minikid 2 and Minikid 3 have both passed the toughest crash test in the world, The Swedish Plus test which is way beyond the limits for approval in both R129 and ECE R44.

  • Approximately 10cm longer back length allowing rear-facing for even longer

The Axkid Minikid 3 benefits from an increase of approximately 10cm in the back length meaning your child can now travel rear-faced for even longer. The Axkid Minikid 3 really stretches the market with these measurements and allows your child to sit comfortably in the car seat for even longer.

image differences (2)
  • The position of the buckle – increased comfort and safety

The buckle has been repositioned on the Axkid Minikid 3 allowing extra room for your child to grow within the car seat and a higher level of comfort allowing your child to remain in the car seat for even longer. And of course, the current ideal position of the buckle on the Axkid Minikid 3 also fits even the smallest children.

  • Easier installation – supportive Easy installation system and interactive 3D guide

Seat belt attached car seats have a rumour that they are difficult to install. Well, with the Axkid Minikid 3 this is now only a memory long gone. Not only with the decrease in installation steps and smart features such as the automatic lower tether and smoother side retractors, the Axkid Minikid 3 differs from its predecessor when it comes to the supportive Easy Installation System and the interactive 3D guide.
The installation of Minikid 3 can now be done in approx 60 seconds.

image differences
  • New headrest design for safety and comfort

The headrest design is updated into a V-shape developed with a force-absorbing technology giving your child the best protection in the event of a collision. The V shape design of the headrest also makes it easy for your child to see out of the window and helps to avoid head-flop.

  • Updated textile cover and increased comfort

The textile cover for Minikid 3 features a new, soft two way stretch fabric with high density laminate. Thanks to the choice of material the seat covers are even simpler to remove and of course, just like Minikid 2, the fabric is machine washable and made from toxic-free materials

  • Toddler support cushion

The Axkid Minikid 3 comes with a new design of the toddler support cushion, previously called Baby Cushion on the Axkid Minikid 2. The updated design makes it easier to fit even the smallest of children as it raises them up in the seat as well as offering a solid side support. An increase of comfort is surely achieved with the new design since the toddler support cushion is made from memory foam and a mesh fabric in the back for air circulation.

  • A more flexible design

Speaking about the differences between Axkid Minikid 3 and 2 makes us almost forget one of the most visible changes. The design of the seat itself is completely updated, however, the compact yet spacious design remains as one of the key features of the seat. The new design is inclusive to allow all children, not depending on length or size, to sit even more comfortably in the car seat. And, for those of you needing more car seats in your car, you can now more easily install three of them in the back at the same time!

Best rear facing car seats for tall baby

Do you have a tall baby who needs a new car seat? Axkid offers many rear facing car seats for tall babies; both ISOFIX car seats and seat belt attached car seats. For babies that are big, but not yet ready for a rear-facing car seat, we also offer a baby carrier or infant car seat.

Rear-facing car seats are safer

Axkid recommends a rear facing car seat rather than a forward-facing car seat. If your child is too tall to travel rear facing, we do offer a forward-facing car seat as well. Axkid always recommends, however, to travel rear facing for as long as possible. Travelling rear-facing protects the neck and spine of tall children in a better way than forward-facing and reduces the risk of injury in the event of a collision. Therefore, Axkid offers rear-facing car seats with high length limits, to allow rear-facing for children that are up to 125cm tall.

Rear facing car seats for big babies

There are a variety of rear facing car seats available on the market that are suitable for big babies, so it is important to do your research and choose one that is appropriate for your child’s height and weight.

Is my child too big for a rear-facing car seat?

If your child is already older and more developed and you suspect that he or she might be too big for a rear-facing car seat, please have a look at our forward-facing car seat segment. We have rear facing car seats for big babies too, but we also offer a forward-facing car seat for the slightly older children. Are you experiencing rear facing car seat legs too long? Axkid offers car seats with great legroom!

< Back to All FAQ:s

Two innovative car seats allowing the highest safety for your child, approved according to the R129 regulation and passed the toughest crash test in the world, the Swedish Plus Test.

Both car seats come with unique features, which one you should choose depends on your personal preferences when it comes to your child, your car and possible budget.

Let us guide you through some of the main differences between the Axkid Minikid 3 and Axkid ONE 2 to help you make a great decision.

Installation – Seatbelt vs ISOFIX

The first and most relevant difference between the seats is how each is installed in the car.  Axkid Minikid 3 is a seatbelt attached car seat meaning the car seat is installed using the vehicle three-point adult seat belt. This gives you flexibility to install it in almost all cars and easily fit the car seat in the front.

The Axkid ONE 2 car seat is installed with ISOFIX, which is an internationally standardised car seat fitting system. All vehicles manufactured after 2014 should be featured with ISOFIX anchor points, most of them in the back seats but some cars also in the front.

But is there any safety difference between the two types of installation? The simple answer is no. However, an ISOFIX installation is considered easier to fit, reducing the human factor of doing anything wrong.

Approved weight and length

Both Axkid Minikid 3 and Axkid ONE 2 are approved up to a length of 125cm. However, the weight limits differ between the seats. ISOFIX points in the vehicle have a maximum combined total weight limit of car seat and child of 33kg. As the Axkid ONE 2 weighs just 10kg, this gives your child the opportunity to stay in the seat up to 23kg.  A seat belt attached car seat does not have the same limits meaning that we can have Axkid Minikid 3 approved up to 125cm and 36kg!

Please note though that the average length for a 7 year old in Sweden is about 125cm and the average weight about 25kg meaning both of the car seats allow real extended rear-facing.

Automatic headrest vs 12 fixed positions

Both of the car seats have an adaptive design to make you child able to grow within and to stay rear-faced for as long as possible. The Axkid Minikid 3 comes with an automatic headrest that automatically adjusts to your child’s length and size. The Axkid ONE 2 comes instead with a headrest including 12 fixed positions that you easily adjust with just one hand to find the ideal position for your child.

header blog q3 (4)

Multiple recline vs Advanced Sleep Well System

The Axkid Minikid 3 comes with a front leg featured multiple reclining positions. This needs to be adjusted before the installation is done. Axkid ONE 2 comes instead with an Advanced Sleep Well system making it possible to adjust the recline of the seat during the ride.

Legroom

How much legroom the car seats allow your child depends mainly on the car. Axkid Minikid 3 can, depending on the car gives your child about 30cm legroom. The leg room is decided when installing the car seat and can after that not being changed unless you uninstall the car seat. The Axkid ONE 2 though features a sliding seat  technology making it possible to adjust the leg room with just one hand.  The seat can slide the seat back and forth after the installation and even when your child is in the car seat.

header blog q3 (6)

Cost

We cannot avoid the fact that there is a price difference between the two car seats. Axkid ONE 2 costs £625.00 while the Axkid Minikid 3 costs from £460.00.
With the price difference we must mention the uniqueness of the Axkid ONE 2. It is the only isofix car seat on the market approved up to 125cm and 23kg, allowing your child to rear-face longer than any other isofix car seat on the market.

In summary both car seats are equally safe, allow rear-facing up to the age of 7 years and their own unique features. Not sure which car seat to choose yet? Here you can read more about the Axkid  ONE 2 and the Axkid Minikid 3, separately.

Travel rear facing

We recommend that children travel in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible, up to 25 kg and preferably up to 7 years of age. It’s time to turn first when the child has passed the maximum weight limit of the car seat or when the child’s head is up by a third above the edge of the headrest, roughly at the height of the child’s eyes. All children grow in different ways and it’s therefore difficult to say an exact age for when it’s time to turn. If it had been possible, all of us would travel rear-facing, even adults. A rear-facing car seat reduces children’s injuries by up to 90 percent.

Bellow you can see how the head develops and that´s one of the big reasons we recommend to use rear-facing car seats as long as possible because even at 6 years old the head is 16% of the total body weight and the neck muscles are not fully developed.

Our car seats are developed based on the philosophy that children and their families should be able to travel and move in the safest possible manner. Different studies based on actual car accidents, show that the risk of death or serious injury in a collision increases about 5 times for children who travel in forward-facing car seats, compared to children traveling in rear-facing car seats.

Axkid recommend that children travel in rear-facing car seats for as long as possible up to 125cm and 7 years of age.

Your child is five times safer in a rear-facing car seat compared to a forward-facing car seat. In a frontal collision, which is the most common type of collision in traffic, the risk increases for huge neck damages and death if the children travel in a forward-facing car seat. The impact on the head, neck and back becomes significantly lower in a rear-facing car seat. A nine-month-old baby has 25% of their body weight in their head, compared to an adult that has 6% of their body weight in the head, (for an average man (82kg) that is 15,5kg extra head weight or total 20,5kg head weight). Children aren’t miniature adults; the children’s heads are very big and heavy compared to their body and the muscles and ligaments in their neck aren’t fully developed.

When sitting in a forward-facing car seat, the upper body is hurled forward at the moment of the crash until the seat belt stops the speed, but the head continues forward at the same speed as the car had before the crash. A heavyweight is then placed on the neck to stop the head’s forward movement. A child in a Axkid rear-facing car seat is often safer than the front-facing driver, that is why Self driving car enginners want to turn the normal car seats to rear-facing.

We at Axkid recommend that children travel in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible, up to 25 kg and preferably up to 7 years of age. Regulations and Safety

Axkid’s accessories ensure your child is safe and comfortable at all times. We do tests on all our products but there is no official test on accessories because there is no standard or regulations on how to test accessories in the car, in comparison to the Plus Test where there are Swedish standard and specific procedures to be approved. This process standardization is missing when it comes to accessories.

You can read more about the Swedish Plus Test here »

We recommend the use of our car seats during the course of 8 years, from when it is installed in your car. For example, it can be in store for 2 years and then used for 8 years. The baby car seat has a life span of 6-7 years in use. The reason as to why we have set this time limit is because the plastic parts are more sensitive to differences in temperatures when installed in the car, but also because we at Axkid are continuously working with the development of our products.

After a car accident, it is crucial to assess whether the car seat is still safe to use. A car seat should always be replaced if any of the following conditions are met:

  1. Activation of airbags or other safety systems: If any of the built-in safety systems have been activated or deployed during the accident.
  2. Interior damage to the car: If there are visible damages inside the car caused by the collision.
  3. Collision with larger animals: If the car seat has been involved in a collision with a larger animal.
  4. Repair costs exceeding £3,000/EUR 3,500 : If the costs to repair damages related to the collision exceed £3,000 GBP.

If any of the above conditions are met we recommend getting in contact with your insurance company. The conditions above are an international recommendation developed by a national expert group for child safety in cars, SIS/TK 242. The group includes representatives from child car seat and car manufacturers with subcontractors, consumer organisations, test institutes, traffic researchers, and insurance companies.

There is nothing wrong with your carseat, the noise comes from residual products from the manufacture of the carseat. As you can see from a closer look around the car seat, the majority of the parts are joined with pop rivets and not screws. This is because, from a construction and strength point of view, poprivets are a more advantageous joining method. When popriveting, the parts of the poprivet that are not needed drops and sometimes these pieces unfortunately falls into the car seat, this does not affect safety.
