Installing lower tether anchorage straps (LTAS) 

What are lower tether anchorage straps?

Axkid’s lower tether anchorage straps (sold separately*) serve as anchorage points in your vehicle, ensuring a secure and stable installation for extended rear-facing car seats. These straps are made from high-strength woven material and are designed for durability and safety. Each strap features a buckle, allowing you to select the optimal length by threading the buckle through one of the designated slots. This flexibility ensures a customized and precise fit for your vehicle and car seat.

There are multiple installation methods for Axkid’s lower tether anchorage straps, depending on your vehicle’s design and available anchorage points.

Installing LTAS using the vehicle’s car seat rail step-by-step 

Attaching Lower tethers to the vehicle´s seat rail.

One commonly used method is attaching the lower tethers to the vehicle’s seat rail, weather in the front or the back of the seat rail. Follow these steps for a safe and stable installation:

  • Attaching LTAS: 
    Wrap the lower tether anchorage strap around the car seat rail. Ensure the strap is positioned securely around the base of the front seat rail.
  • Choose correct length: 
    Thread the buckle through the appropriate slot on the tether strap. Choose a slot that provides the correct tension while keeping the buckle near the base of the car seat rail.
  • Install car seats with retractable tethers (Minikid 4 Max and Minikid 4). Pull down the retractable tether straps attached to the back of the car seat and fasten them into the brackets on the lower tether. Important Notice: Once the lower tether anchorage straps are installed and the car seat is secured, do not adjust or move the front seat. Moving the seat may cause damage to the LTAS, compromising the safety and security of the installation.

Installing LTAS wrapping underneath the car seat rail.

Another possibility of attaching the LTAS is by wrapping them underneath the car seat rail avoiding the top of the rail. This will make you able to move the seat freely. Here is the step-by-step guide:

  1. Wrapping the LTAS:
    Push the LTAS underneath the seat rail and the floor, making sure the strap is pushed around the bolt or screw that attaches the seat rail to the floor.
  2. Choose length:
    Guide the buckle through a slot on the strap and pull tightly to secure it.
  3. Install car seats:
    Install your car seat using lower tethers (Minikid 4 Pro or Movekid) or lower tether with a retractor (Minikid 4 Max or Minikid 4). Installing LTAS to a lower tether anchorage loop (LTA)

Some vehicles are equipped with a lower tether anchorage loop (LTA) pre-installed in the car rail. This loop can be used to attach the lower tether anchorage strap. To secure the strap in the LTA follow these steps:

  • Pull the LTAS through the loop.
  • Guide the buckle through one of the slots on the strap, choosing the correct length for your need.
  • Pull the buckle to tighten the installation, ensuring a firm and secure fit.
  • The LTAS is now ready to be used with either lower tethers or lower tethers with retractor.

Installing lower tethers using the front seats.

If the car seat rail method is not suitable for your vehicle, the lower tether anchorage straps can also be attached using the front passenger or driver seat as an anchoring point. Follow these instructions for a proper installation:

  • Push the lower tether strap through the gap between the vehicle seat’s backrest and cushion.
  • Wrap the buckled end around the side of the front seat, extending the strap toward the backseat where the child car seat will be installed.
  • Repeat this process for both tethers, ensuring they are symmetrically positioned on either side of the front seat.
  • Once the LTAS are positioned correctly, thread the buckle through one of the designated slots. Choose a slot that is close to the base of the connecting point to achieve optimal security.
  • Pull the buckle to ensure a tight and secure fit. The lower tether strap is now ready to be used.

Installing car seats with lower tethers with retractor (Minikid 4 Max or Minikid 4) to LTAS:

Pull the lower tether with retractor down from the back of the car seat and attach it to the buckle of the LTAS. For more detailed information review the installation guide of Minikid 4 Max or Minikid 4.

Installing car seats with lower tethers (Minikid 4 Pro or Movekid) to LTAS:

Use the already included lower tethers, in some cases the LTAS could be used to connect the LTAS with the lower tethers of the car seat. Please review the installation guide of Minikid 4 Pro or Movekid using lower tethers.
